A business is only as strong as its weakest link, often which is the web server it uses or a third-party hosting service. If you’re not a programmer by nature, having to deal with technical jargon can become overwhelming. When it is not clear what to purchase, we often decide to just pick anything at random and make a purchase.
Web Host
Find out what kinds of sites your web host offers. Some free hosting sites do not allow you to add your own scripts to the static pages they offer. If you cannot find the kind of dynamic scripts you want to use, you may have to pay a web host for that service.
You need to decide whether shared or dedicated hosting. If your site is very large, or you receive a lot of traffic, shared hosting may not be a good option. It is probably a good idea to look for a web host that is dedicated.
Choose a web host that does not have many outages. Don’t choose a company that experiences frequent outages has clearly not taken the proper precautions to protect their clients. Frequent downtime demonstrates a poor business model, so do not make a commitment to such a company.
Look up backup hosts if you run into unfavorable services of your current hosting company. If you decide you can’t handle the problems with your service, you’ll be able to move quickly without having to start your search from scratch.
Your host would actually have a tighter grip on the controls of your domain registration.
When determining your needs for web page hosting, you should opt for a company that has web servers located geographically close to your targeted traffic. If your target audience is Americans, make sure the host provider has its data center established in the UK too.
You should now see what is involved with picking an adequate web host. If you already have a hosting account and are locked into a contract, you can notify your IT department that you are preparing your site for an easy transition.
